At Britannia House and The Cottage we are committed to providing an excellent quality
of service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities.
A symbol of this commitment is our membership of the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
The scheme provides accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce
the environmental impact of their activities. By encouraging sustainable practices
the scheme ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment around us for future
generations.
Some of the main steps we have taken to reduce our impact are:
- Supplying household cleaning products for your use that do not harm the environment.
- Seeking to ensure efficient use of energy, using low-energy light bulbs wherever
possible and metering our energy use. Our electricity is supplied on Scottish Power’s
green tariff, from hydroelectric sources.
- Providing recycling bins for our guests’ use, and using recycled paper products in
our business.
- Promoting a no-smoking policy for the benefit of our guests.
- Ensuring that the business meets the statutory requirements set by environmental
law.
Did you know that there are good public-transport links to Holy Island? You can travel
from London King's Cross to Berwick railway station in as little as 3½ hours. From
there, there is a regular Saturday bus service to the Island, depending on the tides,
or a taxi service costing around £12. You'll find local travel information in the
cottages.
